How to make perfume last longer in hot, humid weather
Heat and humidity change how perfume behaves on skin. Here's how to apply and store your fragrance so it lasts through a Bangladeshi summer day.

Warm skin makes perfume open up faster — which is lovely for the first hour, and frustrating when the scent seems to vanish by lunchtime. Humidity and sweat play a part too. The good news: a few small habits make a big difference to how long your fragrance stays with you.
1. Start with moisturised skin
Fragrance holds on to moisturised skin far better than dry skin. After a shower, apply an unscented lotion (or one with a matching note, like vanilla), wait a minute, then spray. The oils in the lotion give the perfume something to cling to.
2. Spray pulse points — and don't rub
Pulse points are where blood vessels sit close to the skin, so they're slightly warmer and gently diffuse scent: the sides of the neck, behind the ears, the inside of the wrists and the inner elbows.
Rubbing your wrists together after spraying is a common habit, but it warms and breaks down the top notes faster. Spray, then let it dry on its own.
3. Use your hair and clothes
Fabric and hair hold scent for much longer than skin, especially in heat. A light mist on a scarf, orna or the ends of your hair will keep the scent around all day. Spray from a little further away (about 20–25 cm) and avoid delicate silks or very light colours in case of marks.
4. Choose the right concentration and notes
An eau de parfum has a higher concentration of fragrance oils than an eau de toilette, so it naturally lasts longer. Every Emorah fragrance is an eau de parfum.
Base notes — woods, amber, musk, vanilla and oud — are the heaviest molecules and stay longest. If longevity matters most to you, look for a fragrance with a rich base. Fresh citrus and light florals are beautiful but fade faster in the heat.
5. Store it away from heat and sunlight
Heat, light and air slowly break perfume down. Keep bottles in their box, in a cupboard or drawer — not on a sunny windowsill or in a hot car. The bathroom is also best avoided because of the steam.
6. Carry a small bottle for touch-ups
A pocket-size bottle is the simplest fix of all. One or two sprays after lunch or before an evening event refreshes the scent without overdoing it.
- Moisturise first
- Spray neck, wrists and behind the ears — don't rub
- Mist your scarf or hair
- Pick an eau de parfum with a warm base
